Machine Design Engineer

     Job and Company Overview: 

West Engineering Company, Inc., seeks an experienced Machine Design Engineer having a strong background in machine job shop operation and estimating to join our elite professional team and report to company Vice-President.

West Engineering is an engineering and machining job shop that focuses on the design and development of customized heavy duty industrial machines, parts, large and small components, fixtures and turn-key assemblies, mostly "one-of-a-kind" for manufacturing companies, government contractors, and similar heavy-duty industrial equipment and large machine users. The company is not a sheet metal, small parts or mass production run consumer products manufacturer. Founded in 1919, this single location company has a 75,000 square foot, high-bay facility equipped with a full array of CNC and precision machining resources and skilled personnel. It is the preferred custom machine design, development and building resource for our valued clients.

     Job Purpose:


Custom machine design and engineering, estimating and associated process implementation in multi-operation precision machining job shop.

Skills/Abilities Include:

Visualize, plan, estimate and facilitate unique industrial machine design and development in respected job shop for capital-intensive clients.

Engineering capability to assure that the process of custom machine engineering and design provides the customer with machines that work and are made in the most cost-effective and quickest way.

Impeccable problem analysis, creative mind-set, and common sense solutions.

Advanced skills in pragmatic use of Microsoft Office, Autodesk Inventor and JobBoss software.

Background including 7+ years experience in job machine shop, engineering and business, and project flow management from concept to closure.

Proficient in constructive verbal and written communications.

Mechanical Engineering degree. MBA and CAPM credentials a plus.

Able to comply with United States citizenship requirements of Federal contractors, sub-contractors and associated vendors.

     Experienced with:


Heavy-duty machine design engineering and machining job shop operations, equipment and resources.

Unique projects having marketplace value from $25,000 up to $2,500,000.

Customer interactions with excellent eye for planning and budget details, including design specifications, blueprints, quality and integrity assurance, risk reduction, compliance with applicable regulations, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing systems, etc.

Prioritizing time and tasks to achieve positive results for clients and profitable outcomes for the company. Knowledge of enterprise resource and materials requirements planning software is a plus.

     Responsibilities include:

Process and project engineering, planning and estimating for multi-operation precision machine design and machining job shop.

Multi-tasking on variety of one-of-a-kind machine engineering, design, development and build projects.

Responding to prospect inquiries, including estimating, quoting, and project initiation.

Identification of potential risks during quotation and estimating phase with follow-up during contracting and implementation phases.

Enhancement and refinement of bid/no bid decision and estimating process using completed job data base.

Integrating new technology into existing operating environment.

Positive interactions with team while also able to self-direct own work.

Adaptable to meet multi-functional needs typical of quick-paced machine job shop, with the ability to process large amounts of information, achieve tight deadlines and communicate clearly with all personnel and stakeholders.

     Salary: $80,000.00 to $110,000.00 /year. Depends on qualifications and experience.
