West Engineering is an engineering design and machining job shop that focuses on the custom design, development and manufacture of unique heavy duty industrial machines. This includes large parts, small components, fixtures and turn-key assemblies, mostly "one-of-a-kind" for industrial companies, government contractors, and similar heavy-duty manufacturing equipment and machine users. Has 10 ton and two 5 ton overhead bridge cranes. The company is not a sheet metal, small parts or mass production run consumer products manufacturer. Founded in 1919, this single location company has a 75,000 square foot, high-bay facility with a full array of CNC and precision machining resources and skilled personnel. It is the preferred custom machine engineering design, development and building resource for many valued clients.

CREDENTIALS - COMPETENCIES REQUIRED INCLUDE:

Specifically: must be able to program, set up, and operate CNC machining centers, vertical and horizontal, such as those made by Fadal, Leadwell, Tree, Milltronic and other machining resources as fully described on the Equipment web pages of the West Engineering web site. This includes, and is not limited to the following actions:

1. Reviewing traveler, set-up instructions, drawings, inspection forms and all relevant documentation for each job.
2. Ensure that the assigned machine is clean and working properly, cutting tools and fixturing are available and that raw material is available prior to starting the set up.
3. Load jaws, tools, etc. in accord with requirements.
4. Input proper CNC program.
5. Set tool offsets.
6. Load and run piece through process and inspection steps.
7. Ensure all necessary items, including inspection criteria and tools are available to complete the job as specified.
8. Operate to ensure optimum efficiency and quality of the job.
9. Make suggestions for potential improvements in machining processes.
10. Ensure compliance with ISO 9001:2008 and all applicable governmental regulations.

SKILL SETS REQUIRED INCLUDE:

Top Tier Machinist's Machinist >> 10 years of machinist experience programming, setting-up and operating CNC machining centers is a must.  This includes, and is not limited to the following actions:

1. Proficiency programming and using Solidworks and Inventor.
2. Knowledge of CNC Fadal, Leadwell, Tree, Milltronic vertical and horizontal machining centers and associated controls is required. Knowledge of Okuma, Hardinge, Poreba and other machines with OSP and Fanuc controls is a plus.
3. Exceptional "hands-on" pragmatic experience in job shop precision machining is preferred.
4. Experience with CNC machining centers to perform setups in an accurate, safe and efficient manner. Experience with CNC lathes a plus.
5. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
6. Able to read drawings and understand GD&T.
7. Effective in use of standard measuring tools.
8. Understand and use G-code.
9. Accurate math skills, very detailed oriented with good personal organizational skills.
10. Adept at inspection and trouble shooting process to ensure the product is within drawing and manufacturing tolerances.
11. Experienced in an ISO compliant environment.

>> Communication and Leadership Skills, such as ability to:
1. Manage and monitor each stage of project.
2. Self-starter able to work with limited supervision on assigned project manufacturing process.
3. Recommend modifications for design improvements and simplification.
4. Use notes, sketches, and verbal instructions to complete project.
5. Clearly explain design ideas to all stakeholders and clients.
6. Read and interpret drawings and specifications.
7. Write and refine operating procedures and standards (Microsoft Office).
8. Ability to bring new technology into existing operating environment.

>> Strong Problem Solving Skills, including:
1. Analytical thinking and visualization.
2. Detail oriented.
3. Identification of potential design improvements.
4. Knowledgeable of machining and fabrication processes.
5. Understanding design calculations (ASME Section III) a plus.
6. Creative and inventive mind-set, reflected by ability to create finished products using Computer Aided Design (CAD) and application of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) in machining and associated tooling and machining set up and processes.
7. Ability to apply strong math skills to analyze and solve problems and arrive at machining solutions.

1. Work with clients and company personnel to create optimal design outcomes.
2. Ability to work with design engineers and people that are not mechanical engineers.
3. Have excellent customer service skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
4. Proactive and willing to take on new challenges and technology.
5. Work effectively under pressure, and able to work overtime as required by job and customer demand.
6. Ability to work well with other team members and understand precise instructions.
7. Clear communication skills are mandatory.
8. Very detailed oriented with good personal organizational skills.
