West Engineering is an engineering design and machining job shop that focuses on the custom design, development and manufacturing of unique heavy duty industrial machines. This includes large parts, small components, fixtures and turn-key assemblies, mostly "one-of-a-kind" for industrial companies, government contractors, and similar heavy-duty manufacturing equipment and machine users. Has 10 ton and two 5 ton overhead bridge cranes. The company is not a sheet metal, small parts or mass production consumer products manufacturer. Founded in 1919, this single location company has a 75,000 square foot, high-bay facility with a full array of CNC and precision machining resources and skilled personnel. It is the preferred custom machine engineering design, development and building resource for many valued clients.

CREDENTIALS - COMPETENCIES REQUIRED INCLUDE:

Specifically: must be able to do fitting, welding and assembly of high quality machined metal parts and machinery.  This includes, and is not limited to the following actions:

1. Assemble and fabricate metal equipment and structures through the use of cutting, welding, shaping, de-burring, grinding, measuring tools and equipment in accord with job orders and traveler.  
2. Independently use high-end welding machines to produce metal parts, structures and equipment of different sizes.
3. Fully qualified to interpret and read project plans, diagrams, blueprints, specifications, welding symbols and sketches to determine required materials, operations and timeframes.
4. Able to operate, maintain and set up welding equipment for MIG, TIG and other types of welding (GMAW, FCAW, SAW, GTAW, ESW, EGW, etc.) to meet quality standards and job order specifications.
5. Implement and comply with company and personal safety measures by wearing safety helmets, goggles, shoes and gloves.  
6. At least five years experience as a commercial/industrial welder.
7. High school diploma or GED required.
8. Valid and current welding capability to meet AWS standards as Certified Welding Fabricator standing is a plus.  
9. Final candidate must pass our pre-employment welding tests.
10. High level of craftsmanship is a must.  Exceptional "hands-on" pragmatic fitting and welding experience in precision machining job shop is preferred.

SKILL SETS REQUIRED INCLUDE:

Top-tier welder-fitter skilled in all fabrication steps for well-established ASME Section VIII machining job shop. Weld steel and alloys. Must be excellent problem-solver, communicator and team member.  This includes, and is not limited to the following actions:

1. Reviewing traveler, set-up instructions, drawings, inspection forms and all relevant documentation for each job.
2. Ensure that the assigned welding area is clean and equipment is working properly, cutting tools, etc., are available and that raw material is available prior to starting the set up.
3. Ensure all necessary items, including inspection criteria and tools are available to complete the job as specified.
4. Adept at inspection and trouble shooting process to ensure the product is within drawing and manufacturing tolerances.
5. Effective in use of standard measuring tools.
6. Accurate math skills, including metric/English measure conversions,
7. Operate to ensure optimum efficiency and quality of the job.
8. Experienced in an ISO compliant environment.
9. Make suggestions for potential improvements in welding related processes.

>> Communication and Leadership Skills, such as ability to:
1. Manage and monitor each stage of project.
2. Self-starter able to work with limited supervision on assigned project manufacturing process.
3. Recommend modifications for design improvements and simplification.
4. Use notes, sketches, and verbal instructions to complete project.
5. Clearly explain design ideas to all stakeholders and clients.
6. Read and interpret drawings and specifications.
7. Write and refine operating procedures and standards (Microsoft Office).
8. Ability to bring new technology into existing operating environment.

>> Strong Problem Solving Skills, including:
1. Analytical thinking and visualization.
2. Detail oriented.
3. Identification of potential design improvements.
4. Knowledgeable of machining and fabrication processes.
5. Understanding design specifications (ASME Section III) required.
6. Creative and inventive mind-set.
7. Ability to apply strong math skills to analyze and solve problems and arrive at accurate solutions.

2. Ability to work with design engineers and people that are not mechanical engineers.

5. Work effectively under pressure, and able to work overtime as required by job and customer demand.
6. Ability to work well with other team members and understand precise instructions.
7. Clear communication skills are mandatory.
8. Very detailed oriented with good personal organizational skills.

Other: Exceptional actual "hands-on" work experience in large alloy parts fitting and welding job shop is a plus. Some related technical school education is a plus.
